GRACE VICTORY, INFLUENCER AND AUTHOR

THE ONE WHO SURVIVED

She’s the author and social media influencer who’s tough upbringing has made her into the strong woman she is today. Meet Grace Victory…

I don’t think I truly knew what I wanted to be when I was little, I just knew I wanted to be something. I had a need to be successful so that I could get out of the town I was from and the difficulties I faced in my childhood. I definitely also wanted to be in a girl band at one point. I fell into my chosen career! Back in 2010 I started watching YouTube videos, channels like BeautyCrush, ShirleyBEniang and Andrea’s Choice. But I felt like a part of me still couldn’t relate to those women, even though they were brilliant. So I decided to fill the gap I was looking for. In 2011 I uploaded my first video (which looking back is just cringe!) and I guess the rest is history as they say. If I could give my 16-year-old self some advice, I would say, “One day, it will all make sense and you will believe that you’re good enough – despite everything”. Raw vulnerability inspires me. Whether that’s in photos, in interviews, in someone’s eyes, in the way that they carry themselves. I just love seeing humanness with no mask. This year I would say has been one of the worst years of my life, for many reasons. It’s just been energetically heavy, emotionally draining and full of sadness. Although, I have faith that one day this year will become the year that taught me the most. This year I have learned the importance of choosing myself and to stop looking for love in people who do not have the capacity within themselves to love me. My biggest life lesson is definitely the thing that you think will break you, will actually make you brave. I did, and some parts I still do, find talking about my past struggles cathartic, but at times I think its re-traumatising. Talking about my ED doesn’t really serve me anymore and I haven’t really spoken about the trauma I’m working through right now. But I still try to be as honest and as open as I can. Writing my book, No Filter was a great process for me and allowed me to close that part of my life.
