Wherever there is a general rule, there is an exception. Senegalese designer Selly Raby Kane captioned her Fall/Winter 2015 collection, “Dakar City of Birds”, with inspiration from birds, sea creatures, wool, basin, hermaphroditism, colour and many more.
I would go straight and ask you to check out the collection but before that, let me tell you about the elements and present to you a fair idea of Dakar City of Birds.
The kimonos are embroidered with classic quilted wax prints, with shrimps and parrots. The sweaters are patched in a Senegalese ‘bayefall’ style. This collection is plainly curious, sundry and jolly, with a modern, traditional and contemporary fabrics mix of urban, afro and pop.
