Barack & Michelle Obama’s Portraits By Nigerian-American Artists, Kehinde Wiley and Amy Sherald Unveiled At Smithsonian

Portraits of former President of the United States of America, Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle Obama has been unveiled at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery on February 12, 2018.

New York-based artist, Kehinde Wiley who is known for historic and natural ways of working by picking ordinary black people and recreating domineering image out of them through his painting. He worked on Barack Obama’s portrait while Baltimore-based female artist Amy Sherald recreated a beautiful portrait of Michelle.

Both artists are Nigerian-American, and with this, have made history as the first with black origin to have created the official presidential portrait for the Smithsonian in Washington DC.

Obama’s portrait shows the 44th president in a suit with no tie, sitting on a chair floating in flowers, while the Michelle’s own depict a strong female unsmiling character, also seated, with the chin resting on her right hand.
