5. Karma Box
Karma is a food waste app (born out of Sweden), working with thousands of restaurants and cafes to reduce their food waste. During the coronavirus lockdown 1.0 in the UK, Karma Boxes were created as a way to support wholesalers who no longer have their normal supply chain (e.g. hotels and restaurants) and are therefore experiencing a huge surge in the amount of surplus produce they have. Plus, Karma team also knew that many people were struggling to get access to fresh produce (especially with the crazy queueing that has been happening at supermarkets). Karma team is working with a great, sustainable wholesalers who have their own farms across the south of the UK. All the produce is seasonally grown in Britain, which means the contents of the box vary depending on what is being grown at that time.
At the moment Karma Box offers 3 different boxes:
– Karma Mixed Veg & Fruit Box (this has a variety of fresh fruit and vegetable including bananas, apples, pears, potatoes, carrots, onions, cabbage etc.)
– Karma Fruit Box (this has a variety of fresh fruit, including apples, pears, bananas, apricots, nectarines, strawberries etc)
– Karma Veg Box (this has enough vegetables for a larger family group that cook healthy meals every night)
