BBC Two and Netflix are working on a new television series which focus primarily on the Rwandan Genocide and the quest for justice using the law. The lead character for this thrilling story is Ghanaian-British actress, writer and producer, Michaela Coel and she will be starring alongside veteran American actor, John Goodman.

Black Earth Rising explores the terrible situations Rwandans went through during the Genocide, Michaela starred in the series as Kate Ashby, a young girl who was rescued by British prosecutor,  Eve Ashby (Played by Harriet Walter) and sent to the united kingdom.

She grew up to become a legal practitioner working at Michael Ennis’ (Played by Michaela Coel) law chambers. Eve and Ennis faced a huge task when Eve started working on a case involving an African militia leader at the International Criminal Court.

According to Deadline, BBC Two will air the eight-episode in the UK, and on Netflix for the international market. No information on when shoot will start and who is directing it.
