Hollywood star, Frances McDormand highlighted a very important subject in the film industry during her Best Actress acceptance speech at 2018 Oscars. The issue of inclusion riders and why the need for stakeholders in the industry to pay critical attention to it.

A couple of days later, Michael B. Jordan of the famous black history movie, Black Panther, and then Creed has added his voice to Frances McDormand speech. The Hollywood actor has pledged to work with inclusion riders at his own production company, Outlier Society in the near future.

Inclusion rider is a clause that can be added to an actor’s employment contract that ensures that cast and crew members on set are open to diversity in colour, race, gender, people with disabilities, members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) and more.

Michael made the announcement on his Instagram, read his words below:

In support of the women & men who are leading this fight, I will be adopting the Inclusion Rider for all projects produced by my company Outlier Society. I’ve been privileged to work with powerful woman & persons of color throughout my career & it’s Outlier’s mission to continue to create for talented individuals going forward. He added the link to University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism research landing page where research carried out by students on inclusion riders can be found.
