You need to be comfortable in your skin… I can’t stress this enough.
Who would have thought that a 21-year old Canadian model with skin disease characterized by patches of unpigmented skin often surrounded by unpigmented border, turned down by modelling agencies in Toronto will appear on the cover of Complex Magazine, front campaigns for Diesel, be shot by the famous Nick Knight and have Drake rap about her “Know Yourself”?
Winnie Harlow was born Chantelle Brown-Young and has struggled with her skin all her life. I wouldn’t want to imagine her reaction to the stares of surprise and pity, even mockery. Cow, zebra, all sort of names they might have called her. But she made it, popular enough to be all over social media platforms and magazine covers, empowering other Vitiligos to feel comfortable in their skin too.
