Photographer and independent curator, Medina Dugger applied the concept of Chromatin in biology to her recent “Chroma” series in honor of the late legendary Nigerian photographer, J.D. Okhai Ojeikere who is on record to have taken shot of over thousand different hair styles.
She explained the concept of “Chroma” to be based on the work of the late photographer who started shooting unique African hair braiding methods dating back to several years and Nigerians acceptance of the rich hair culture not for just decoration but to carry meaningful and symbolic messages.
“Chroma” was coined from chromatin a macromolecule with the ability to take shape and sizes, the human DNA is packed into it to fit into the nucleus of the cell.
