The Essence Festival has been held for over 20 years in New Orleans, U.S.A but that is about to change. In partnership with eThekwini municipality, next year’s edition of the music festival would be held in Durban, South Africa.
The President of Essence Communications Inc., Michelle Ebanks says…
“We believe that this event will strengthen the Essence Festival and deepen our connection to our attendees, there’s an African proverb that says you can go fast alone or far together. Reconnecting with our community on the African continent will allow us to go far together.”
Besides moving to a different continent, the goal of the festival would expand focus to on women empowerment and apparently some businesses owned by women would be selected to trade at the event.
