Birmingham based singer/songwriter Gambimi may be only 20 years old but the artiste has proved he has a lot to offer than your average musician. Signed to Warner Music / 6 Music Group, the Congolese rising star has gained a pretty descent following in Birmingham appearing on shows alongside the likes of Section Boyz, J Hus, Maxi Priest and more. His first single dubbed ‘Waters’ from his upcoming EP seems to on a quest to dominate the charts

Give us five interstitial facts that your fans should know about you.

– I started rapping before I took singing seriously
– I’m not the biggest fan of surprises
– I have a total fear of heights
– I am definitely a hopeless romantic

    – I’m a football fanatic, a supporter of Manchester United and because of my affiliation to Birmingham I have a slight soft spot for Aston Villa.

What most inspires your music?

– What I know is most true to me and that varies from family to personal experiences.

What does music mean to you?
Is it a re-creation of your life or is it a form of release/escape? Does it transcend beyond both?

– I’d say that it transcends beyond both. Music for me is like a guide through life and a medium I can use to create my own world.

How has your own experiences influenced your music? (I’m thinking particularly of songs like ‘Soul Searching’) How do you isolate personal experiences and make them transferable to your listeners?

– My past experiences allow me to make music that has meaning and substance, I always aim to create art that can illustrate different experiences of my personal life in the most effective way and the majority of times thats just by me being honest in my writing.

What advice would you give to a young musician looking up to you?— My advice to a young artist would be that with determination along with the right team is crucial. Having the right team and a mutual understanding of why music is so important to you can really support in executing the plans you make.


Where do you see yourself within the next five years?

– I would like to be an established and well recognised International act. One of my long term ambitions is to embark on a world tour to perform to people across the globe. I opened for Madonna at the NIA arena which gave me a taste of performing to large audiences.
