Nothing beats an instagram selfie where your melanin just pops from every direction of lighting! Te best way to achieve this is through a Shimmering body gel made from aloe Vera gel and avocado oil. We are talking about theSt Essentials range that is 100% vegan!

Birthed on a beach in Cuba, the idea for St Essentials was conceived from a revealing conversation about race between co-founders Temi and Sheena that reminded them about the beauty of being women of colour. St Essentials shimmering body gels were created for those that celebrate their skin and love to  enhance their glow.

With a product offering of 8 shades: Pink Polynesia, Cool Cuban, Malaysian coral , Golden china, Egyptian spice, Sub-Saharan bronze, Colombian cocoa and Flaming Hawaii Avocado oil, the shimmering body gels hydrate and moisturises skin, ensuring a signature sparkle and shine to your skin.

One of the best things about the gels is how they reduce signs of ageing and treats sun burn because of the Aloe Vera gel is rich in vitamins C and E, add the fact that they all smell so amazing with a touch of vanilla essence.

We sat down with one of the co-founders; Temi Alebiosu to chat a little bit more about this skin-gem creation!

GA: Why did you decide to make your own product range?

Temi Alebiosu: They say “what you put in is what you get out”. For us this statement also applies to the products we absorb and choose to use. We are passionate about positive energy and have the belief that natural and fresh ingredients hold a positive source of energy, and so we really wanted to create a product range that combines natural ingredients and naturally stimulates positive energy within and once  you apply a product that has natural goodies within it, you instantly feel good and uplifted that  your skin is absorbing natural good ingredients and  that feeling is a feeling we wanted others to experience.

GA: Why is it the perfect essential for parties?

TA: When your out to party it should never be a dull moment, you are in full glitz and glamour mode for your night out about the town. So Why just stop at a glitter eyeshadow with a popping Golden Highlight, when you can get the overall show-stopping look from head to toe using a Shimmering Body Glitter gel that leaves your skin sparkling and glowing for a full 24 hrs like J LO, and also whats great, it is the perfect to size to tuck away in your handbag on your night out.

GA: What makes your products different?

TA: Our shimmering Body Glitter Gels are hand whipped only using natural active ingredients such as aloe vera and macadamia nut oil which enables the added benefit for your skin to be nourished , mouristurised and soothes  the skin from sunburn whilst you shimmer and glow with a product that is very long lasting and is non-sticky that makes it wearable for you in different climates.

GA: Who are the biggest fans?

TA: Our current biggest fans  are Tv Presenter Jenny Powell and Elma Aveiro the sister of Christiano Ronaldo.

GA: Tell us more about the colour range and the ideas behind it

TA: We are huge advocates for diversity, being women of colour who can identify with women who never felt represented or catered to by brands in the industry it was important to bring out a shade palette of Shimmering Gels that was formulated to compliment and enhance the fairest of skin tones down to the darkest of skin tones.

As we noticed within the beauty industry that products for women with very fair skin tones would appear more ghostly on there skin and for women of deep dark skin tones such as ourselves we  would find an issue with only limited amount products available on the market and if the products was available it would feel like one shade of product is to fit all the diverse shades of melanin, so we really wanted to create a colour range in which all women of all skintones could use regardless of there skintone and enhance there  glow.

GA: What inspired you to start you own brand?

TA: Our brand is inspired by our mantra “We Glow Too” which is also the name of our first collection , which means to us that regardless of skintone, disability, sexuality or Cultural Belief that every women deserves to know that they can shine just as bright as any other women. This mantra came about from personal experiences we both faced from sheena having a sister with disability whose been labelled and put in a box, to temi being told within the workplace  by a collegue that she would  never pick to be a black women if given the chance to pick her race. So we really wanted to create a brand that could touch every girl that ever felt excluded , limited, devalued to let them know that they deserve and can shine just as bright!!

GA: What has been the response from people when using your products?

TA: Our most common response we get is that the products makes them feel like they are on holiday. They love the  number of shades the Body shimmer comes in and the fact that all shades are suitable for all skin tones. We also get alot of admiration for the use of natural ingredients especially as people are becoming more conscious and aware of products they put on there bodies. Alot of people have highlighted they like the sweet subtle vanilla fragrance from the Body Shimmer.

GA: What’s your dream for ST Essentials?

TA: For ST Essentials our dream goes beyond the makeup products we really want to expand our reach globallly and contribute and deliver this message of self love and manifesting positive energy to every little girl globally who wakes up questioning there value by creating a community women who come together to embrace , celebrate and guide one another through our brand.

GA: Why a glitter product?

TA: Have you ever heard of More Glitter, Less Bitter!! For us its a fact , instantly when you see glitter you cant stop but get excited and feel happy and that is what ST Essentials is about stimulating Positive happy Energy for all that come across our Brand and our Product.

St Essentials was created for the benefit of everyone, for all skin shades, disabilities, body sizes, sexualities or religious beliefs. And might we add, is an ESSENTIAL to bring along to your beach holidays, festivals, or just a day out with your friends!
