Over the years, the multi-national and most-prefered social media platform, Instagram, has taken various steps to improve user experience. One that turned the advertising industry on it’s head late last year when they changed the algorithm used to prioritize certain posts that users see, limiting the amount of adverts ti one’s timeline, therefore retaining more of the authentic ‘social networking’ aspect that the company first sought out to provide.

This mission seems to still be alive and kicking as per a press release sent out this week, Instagram, is looking at wiping all the specks of blemishes in terms of fake followers, likes and comments.  So if you or your company have accounts that thrived off third-party purchased bot-followers… consider yourself in trouble!

This, according to Instagram is the best way to maintain some level of fairness and originality on the platform. Accounts that start small and suddenly experienced a surge in followers, likes and comments due to the use of a third party app doesn’t make user engagement fun and thus removes authenticity from markets such as Influencer Marketing.

As for the move, the platform has announced that in the coming weeks, most accounts with fake followers and engagements will be striped of their privileges, warning that notifications will be sent out to these  accounts to change their passwords and and that these fake followers, likes, and comments will be deleted. The change of password is for the accounts’ own good because, in the process of getting more fake engagements, owners provide their login details to these third party which could expose the account to hackers.

However, to be safe on the platform if you are already using a third party app to boost your followers, likes and comments, just abide with the directives to change the password when the message comes from Instagram. And if you are not using the third party app too then use the systematic process to build your accounts, build a niche and provide more contents and the followers, likes and comments will come with time.

Be in there, we care about your account!
