The President of South Africa, Jacob Zuma, 75, has stepped down from his position as the leader of the country to avoid facing a vote of no confidence from his own party, African National Congress (ANC).
Watch Zuma’s televised address to South Africa announcing his resignation on Wednesday, February 14, 2018:
If we could all remember, former Zimbabwean President, Robert Mugabe also suffered similar fit in 2017, after coming under a general outcry from the citizens for him to leave office.
Zuma’s reign from when he took office in 2009 till 2018 has been mired with widespread allegations of corruption and many South Africans seem to be happy with his decision to bow out of office. His Vice, Cyril Ramaphosa will now serve as the acting president of the country.
As usual, Twitter was the meeting point for South Africans to express how they feel about the announcement, top-notch celebrities like Cassper Nyovest and Pearl Thusi added their voices to the trend with the hashtag #ZumaResigns
This is big news!!! Getting a haircut In LA and people are asking me if the Zuma news is true and how we feel about it. How’s the vibe back home? #ZumaResigns
