As much as the African Fashion scene is bursting with a whole of talented designers and other creative fashionistas, you have to admit that there have been a couple of hitches along the way.
In a recent interview with Okay Africa, Lagos Fashion and Design Week founder Omoyemi Akerele discussed her shortcomings trying to put up one of the best runway shows on continent. She said..
” It’s tough trying to get people to understand that what we are trying to do is different and that it’s not just about getting designers together and then just moving on. We cannot do anything without a sponsor. From trying to get a venue, to production, to models needing to get paid , hair and makeup—it’s a lot of money.”
This year Omoyemi and her crew teamed up with Heineken to bring the event to life, in a statement she described the collaboration as transcending beyond a sponsorship to a partnership. She said it is about how we can all “come together to help build this industry and take it to the next level”
