Caroline Flack has confirmed the finale date on Love Island 2019 as Monday 29th, July with the crowning of another happy couple as the winning partnership.
The producers of the series have made some efforts to address concerns about the shows diversity. Last year’s lineup included only one black woman, Samira Mighty who eventually walked out of the show. This year, we have seen Yewande Biala, Michael Griffiths, Jordan Hames and Sherif Lanre.
Here are background stories on black islanders.
1. Jordan Hames
Jordan is a model who has modeled for brands such as Adidas and featured in the Addidas World Cup campaign where he met David Beckham on set. Asked about his looks, he said: “I would say I am solid 9.8 out of ten. Not quite a ten, no one is perfect. My best feature is my hair.”
2. Yewande Biala
From: Dublin, Ireland
Yewande is a scientist and keen to prove that there are “intelligent people” on reality TV.
“Every time I say that I’m a scientist, people are shocked,” said the 23-year-old. “I think there are loads of intelligent people on reality television.”
However, her science background hasn’t helped Yawande find the formula for the perfect match. “I don’t think there is a science to finding love and if there is then I have clearly been reading the wrong books!” she joked. She has been ‘dumped’ from the Island.
3. Ovie Soko
Job: Professional basketball player
Ovie is a British-Nigerian who plays basketball for the UK – something that he feels will help him succeed in the villa.
“They seem like cool people,” he said. “I’m competitive but I’m in the locker room with 14 other big egos on a high level sports team and we all get along just fine, so I think I’ll be okay.”
4. Sherif Lanre
Occupation: chef and semi-pro rugby player
Sherif Lanre was asked to leave the Love Island villa with immediate effect after “breaking the rules.”
He was ejected from the ITV show on Tuesday 12 June after something happened that was severe enough for him to leave the reality series.
Lanre was asked to leave for accidentally kicking fellow contestant Molly-Mae Hague in the groin.
He then joked about the incident afterwards using the expletive “cunt-punt.”
