Thrilled to share that @LieslTommy is directing the film adaptation of @TrevorNoah's #BornACrime! She's a powerhouse whom I have known and admired for years and who directed my broadway debut, Eclipsed. I can't wait to work with her again for this movie and proud to have a South African woman at the helm of this story.
Lupita had previously worked with Liesl Tommy on Eclipsed written by her Black Panther co-star, Zimbabwean-American actress, Danai Gurira. Lupita will star as Trevor’s mother, Patricia Noah, and produce the film alongside Trevor. No word yet on when shoot will commence and the date of release.
Moreover, Liesl ’s vast knowledge as Hollywood based filmmaker of South African heritage will give the film the kind of connection its need since the book was written by Trevor. And it is largely based on the apartheid era especially his mother who played a very pivotal role in his childhood and shaping him into the man he is now.
