Here at Glam Africa, our favourite thing is meeting boss ladies who are becoming trail-blazers in their industry. Janada Ajeroh is one such person, creating a customizable organic skincare range in Nigeria that rivals many!

If you live in Nigeria and ever looked for really unique gifts for everything from baby showers, weddings, engagements or just your friend’s birthday, then you have definitely come across Mint Organic Care, a toxin-free skincare and packaging brand that specialises in custom products.

Today we meet the founder and CEO of this amazing brand, Janada Ajeroh who had a dream of providing great choices of organic skincare.

In a country that has been largely accused of promoting skin-bleaching, what sparked the idea to produce the opposite, in the form of organic and natural body products?

JANDANA: I used myself as a data point. I initially began making bath and body products for myself and my family, using ingredients that proved healthiest and most enjoyable on my skin.

With time, friends and strangers began requesting the products, which inspired the idea to design them as gifts for events and souvenirs. Even though there is a lot of skin bleaching in Nigeria, there is a substantial and growing population of Nigerians that desire pure and chemical free products for themselves and their household. Nigerians are becoming more conscious of the things we put into and onto our body, and this awareness is showing more in the health and beauty industry.

Mint Organic Care offers a wide range of bath and body products in addition to scented soy candles. Every product is handmade from scratch to take special care of the nutritional value and quality that has become the signature of the brand.

What would you say are your best sellers?

JANDANA: There are actually quite a few! But I must say our biggest orders are usually for our bar soaps, face & body scrubs, goatmilk lotions, bath bombs and body butter. We also carry bath accessories such as sponges, towels and foot stones. If I had to choose our number one best seller it would be the bar soaps though!

Being a female entrepreneur is still had in this day and age, even more so in Africa as the ease of doing business in general is notably lower than many other countries, with access to resources and business education being a huge barrier to entry, Janada found a way to overcome the obstacles and create a thriving business.
If you could teach young girls with dreams of running their own businesses anything, what would it be?
JANDANA: I would advice young aspiring entrepreneurs to ensure they have a real passion for their business. As I stated earlier I began my business as a form of self care and I would continue to make bath and body products for myself and my family regardless of being paid or not. I would also add to devise a solid business plan and stick to it, especially in the early stages of the business. As you’re growing a business I think one may receive various offers, collaborations and ideas that sound good but lack depth for your business at the end of the day. Be confident in your work and grow alone if you must.

Mint Organic Care‘s store is one of those stores you can find yourself spending hours and hours on, just because you aren’t sure what you want to keep in take out of your cart because you realise you’ve long passed your budget spend. From creative bath bombs to essential oils for men’s beards, the range offered can capture anybody, but who was it originally made for?

Who is Mint Organic Care’s target market?

JANDANA: We initially had a target market of females age 16-60, but because our products have therapeutic and healing properties, we quickly saw that there is a market for people of all ages. Everyone needs to bathe right? We have products for men, women, children, babies and aging mature skin. We also cater for events for all ages. Handmade products are versatile in this way and so consumer targets are endless.

In the next 5 years, Janada plans to have solidified their Mint Organic Care flagship store in Abuja and have a US base for retail as well. She’s also working on developing a baby line- a move we think is smart because there’s never enough gifts for a baby shower!

What can we expect in the future of Mint Organic Care?

JANDANA: Well who knows? Maybe a hair care line? But for sure we are always working on better products, better service and worldwide access!
