The 26th annual edition of Miss Ghana UK took place on Saturday night at the Gaumont Theatre in London’s Wood Green. 12 girls battle it out, wearing traditional wear, swimwear and evening wear as well as displaying their talent in front of an auditorium packed with family and friends. Even a few celebs popped in with Reggie ‘n’ Bollie and Zynnell Zuh lending their support to the lucky contestants.

Akua Ohenewaa Anim emerged the winner, with Sherrie Gaulder-Akoto 1st runner-up and Monaliza Baaba Cudjoe as 2nd runner-up. Akua, the new Miss Ghana UK 2018, said, “It was an honour to be crowned Miss Ghana UK 2018. I’m very thankful for the opportunity. I promised in my speech that if crowned I would use my platform to change the lives of young people in the diaspora. The work is already in place, and I’m looking forward to doing more over the next 12 months.”

Cilla Baafuor-Gyewu one of the organisers of the event said, “Miss Ghana UK is the biggest and most popular African beauty pageant in Europe. This year’s 12 contestants educated the audience on Ghana as a tourism destination. Our theme, ‘See Ghana, Wear Ghana, Eat Ghana and Feel Ghana’, showcased our rich Ghanaian culture and heritage. This year’s event was an amazing combination of beauty with brains and glamour. Once again it was a fabulous show, not just in our opinion, but in the audience’s opinion too.”

The event was hosted by Afua Adom, Ms Dru and Simply Andy and was sponsored by World Remit, Blue Rose Properties Limited, Lifestyle Bids, Konfidence Hair, By Renée, Hair To The Throne, Eclat Salon and Chocolate Hair.
