Wanuri Kahiu’s name is on the lips of movie lovers most especially Kenyans and those participating in the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. Her 2018 film ’Rafiki’ which depicted a homosexual relationship, was banned in Kenya because the laws of the country frown upon anything related to same-sex partnerships.
Nevertheless, she was full of smiles as the film was accepted for screening at Cannes Film Festival where it received a resounding ovation. She is far from giving up on her success thus far and her belief in making films that bend the narratives is stronger than ever.
