We have heard the saying ‘Beauty In Colour’ regularly and in recent times, it has become the main focus for many activists around the world who believe people of colour needs to be given a seat at every table without a second thought.
Well, in many cases, women seem to be the most affected and we happy the world is finally listening, actions are being taken. Just this year, Hollywood key players took the initiative to debut the ‘Me Too’ movement to give women a voice.
But, one photographer who continues to echo that through his works is Essien Akan, the Brooklyn Park-based photographer had been working with Sudanese-American model, Nyakim Gatwech and other models to celebrate black beauty.
What he is telling all of us with his works, is simple, celebrate blackness in your little way.
