If you have noticed, 2018 started on a big note with a strong message of inclusion and an open playground for everyone to feel free to speak up especially women. Hence, hashtags and movement like #MeTo became very prominent and it is doing very well.

Women of colour across all borders of the creative sector who have been contributing to the development of the continent either in diaspora or within the continent are getting their due recognition through award shows and the inaugural Precious lifestyle Awards will be playing a huge role in this regard.

Organizers invited the general public to nominate unsung heroines behind favourite brands and services often overlooked by mainstream awards. Precious Lifestyle Awards founded by Foluke Akinlose MBE is inspired by the many industrious women seen making effective change in the lifestyle world, blending career with motherhood and more.

In a chat with Foluke, she spoke of the opportunity that must be created for women of colour and applaud them at the same time. ‘The hair and beauty industry isn’t known for being the most inclusive, so it’s been exciting to see the emergence of some very innovative brands for and by women of colour over the last few years. This lack of visibility can be seen in the fashion arena. Women of colour are creating their own platforms and getting their voices heard via podcasts and books. I cannot wait to see the gems of creativity and innovation that we are set to unearth.” She said.

Furthermore, the award ceremony will be hosted by the founder of Self-Central, Lisa Bent with judges including freelance journalist and editor of Black Hair magazine, Keysha Davis, media and broadcasting queen, Angie Greaves, culturally connected PR & Communications consultant, Iola C. Williams, one of the UK’s best-loved skincare experts Antonia Burrell and Suki Fuller – an Analytical Storyteller and globally recognised speaker, mentor and business advisor.

The Precious Lifestyle Awards will shine a light on women of colour in all their glory by showcasing some of the best hair, beauty and fashion brands, celebrating the best podcasts, applauding social media influencers and highlighting the best writing talent of the last year.

Precious Lifestyle Award is taking place on Jule 24, 2018.
