Kenyan film Rafiki may have been slapped with a ban in the country for focusing on homosexuality which is an offence. But that didn’t stop the film from making the needed impact the ongoing Cannes Film Festival in France.

The main cast of the film Kena (Samantha Mugatsia) and Ziki (Sheila Munyiva) joined the director Wanuri Kahiu at the festival, posting for photos on the red carpet. Rafiki tells the story of Kena and Ziki who fell in love but in a typical African community that was a problem to deal with. Other supporting stars of the film include Jimmi Gathu, Nini Wacera, Patricia Amira and Dennis Musyoka.

Rafiki entry in the Cannes Film Festival 2018 can be considered a win for the continent for the simple fact that, not many African films make it to the festival each year.
