Former South African first lady, Winnie Madikizela Mandela has died at the age of 81. She was a strong voice for the voiceless during the apartheid era where the black people in the country were been looked down upon and forced to undergo inhuman treatment.

She was married to the late President, Nelson Mandela from 1958 to 1996. She passionately campaigned for his release from prison when he was arrested for his fight against the white rule.

Cause of her death has been attributed to long-term kidney illness which she has been battling with for some time now. Sad news for Africans as she was an eminent figure for the liberation of the black race.
