boogyCaught up with one of Africa’s most successful fashion stylist Lethabo Maboi aka Boogy to find which of this season’s trend we need to be rocking and which of them needs to go.

For those of you who are not familiar with the South African trendsetter’s works, well here is a little bit of info for you. Boogy is not just a fashion stylist. No please! She is a radio and TV personality plus she owns her very own pop up store by the name Style Lab. From music videos to red carpet, Lethabo has done it all.  If you are in Africa then ‘Boogy’ has got all the 411 on the latest fashion trends, plus tips for all upcoming fashion stylist.

What would you say are the top trends of the season?

We have just entered what looks like is about to be the hottest African summer ever so I think the trend will be in fabrics as opposed to styles of garments.I think the mesh trend will continue and we will be seeing lots of chiffons and cut out trends. The Bohemian trend will continue to own the Sumner.

What trends do you feel need to go?

Cultural appropriation by all these international fashion houses who steal pieces of our culture for fashion. Its a trend and it needs to stop.

— As a successful fashion stylist what would be your top tips for an upcoming stylist?

Create your own lane there’s no manual to this career path on our continent yet.

Ask for help, this job may seem glamorous but its not.Its very labour intensive and requires lots of stamina.

Form relationships with local designers they will always have something new you require

As previously mentioned, Boogy has her own pop up store which you definitely need to check out. She says…

”Style Lab runs as a pop up store all over the country during big social events and awards where my personal clients are given an opportunity to shop amazing local and street wear brands such as Nike in the private setting of a hotel. see #stylelab on my Instagram.”
