Happy July my lovelies* and welcome to Summer 2016!! So far this has been a jam packed year with loads of transition.. and personal expression. Here in Paris we are experiencing a delayed Summer. We have yet to experience the warm weather and sunshine that is usually upon us this time of year, yet daily we see grey skies and experience 4 seasons in a day!!
Not really the ‘rhythm’ we are use to but like always, there is still beauty ALL around us!!
A great contributor in capturing that beauty is ..
Ms. Nicholle Kobi better known to many as the GIFTED illustrator, Niki Groove ** her gift is infectious. She has an amazing talent and ability to capture the uniqueness of the black woman independent of cliché, stereotype , or objectification! Her work is a celebration of all things fabulous and FULL, in the lives of a complete woman with Paris, France, often being their backdrop.
She focuses on the beauty of solitude, Sunday ‘girlfriend brunches’ (often times with child in tote.. ) romantic getaways, reverence and daily DIVA moments.
She is the very best at what she does and creates her unique tapestry daily; I mean, NON STOP!!
Most recently I was able to have one of the those ‘Girlfriend brunches’ with Ms. Niki Groove. While speaking we sat with the Eiffel Tour directly in view believe me.. it was picturesque* and here is some of what she shared..
How would you describe your artistic work/ point of view?
My artistic work is very minimalist – I am a minimalist
What inspires you most?
Black women from all around the world inspires me very much and are the subjects of my work
who are you artistic influences?
I was inspired by (certain) french illustrators and Garance dore, but now I am inspired by daily life
So I understand that you will be traveling soon to New York , What are some of your projects there?
Yes I will be in NYC this summer because I want to be near my customers I want to build something good for them and unique to them. Maybe open a office or atelier (art studio)there but we’ll see 😉
What can we exact in the future from the phonemail work of , Niki Groove?
I have so many things I want to do! I am seriously thinking about designing clothes, making a short film about black women. Honestly, the possibilities are in fact, ENDLESS*
As we sat just enjoying our meal and drinks we both realised that life often imitates ART as our paths had finally crossed and we were giving LIFE to her illustrations.. -HASHTAG- #Perfection!! 🙂
I look forward to catching up with my girlie, Niki Groove, upon her return to France and encourage you all to seek out her UNMISTAKABLE -works of art- as they are not only beautiful and inclusive but truly inspirational. She most sincerely adds illustration to the movement; Black Girls ROCK!!!
All for now.. Love! S xx
