Every generation as one stands out talent that does things beyond the comprehension of the human mind. The likes of Michael Jackson, Fela Kuti all did take their craft to the world in a way that has never been experienced before. Many of the talents can be found in this generation, taking authentic African music mainly Afropop, Afro-Beat, Afro-Hip-hop, the list goes on to the international market.
We could talk about Davido, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, 2Baba, and a countless number of amazing talents from Nigeria, AKA, Cassper Nyovest, Emtee, Nasty C etc. from South Africa and In Ghana, their list includes, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Samini, Shatta Wale, Edem, Obrafour and more. Selling out international stages has, however, never been an easier task for these many musicians in the world, leaving their comfort zone to come to America, Europe and Asia to make history.
Down the line, Nigerian wonder kid, Wizkid gave us all every reason to believe in that possibility, and all that needs to be done is to achieve this is to make sure you most importantly stay relevant on the local market and then the international market. The best part of all this is, the international market is beginning to consume music exported from the continent.
Preparation for Afro Republik at the o2 Arena
On September 29, 2017, Wizkid left the shore of Nigeria to Royal Albert Hall and together with his fans, made history. He repeated the same at the famous 02 Arena, London on May 26, 2018, joining forces with a few African and London Based acts – Mr Eazi, Tekno, Tiwa Savage, Skepta, Not3s and several others. One after the other, they thrilled the fans and when the moment arrived for Wizkid to step on stage, he was introduced by the famous British model, Naomi Campbell. As expected of him, he performed songs from his previous album, mixtapes submissions to the current ones.
