The fashion industry woke up to a very good news of the appointment of Ghanaian-American fashion designer, Virgil Abloh as the head artistic director of fashion powerhouse, Louis Vuitton, he succeeds Kim Jones, who served the brand for seven years before departing to LVMH-owned fashion brand Christian Dior.

Virgil Abloh, 37, Founder of a luxe-fashion brand, Off-White, with much of its designs being a combination of streetwear with high-fashion. Building a strong brand and getting the attention of every fashion lover seeking to look different in terms of style.

In a statement made shortly after his appointment, Virgil said:  “I find the heritage and creative integrity of the house are key inspirations and will look to reference them both while drawing parallels to modern times”. This gives the full overview of Virgil’s overall mission at the position he is going to occupy, marrying rich cultural looks with high-fashion just like he did with his own brand, and then as the creative director to Kanye West for many years.

But, our excitement is geared towards the fact that, the new appointment brings a lot of diversity and black originality to the fashion house and the industry especially when it’s mainly being washed by white and not so much black race dominance. His first major collection for the Parisian fashion house will be in June during Men’s fashion week in June.

We surfed social media to find out how the world is responding to the news of his appointment. See below for the reactions:
