Going on a fitness program comes with its own vast amount of decisions to make. Gym or no gym? Low carb or go vegan? Detox or loads of water? But today we focus on just one: Can you eat pizza on a night out?

We are 2 weeks into the 2nd half of this year. You may be panicking about how much time is left but you could also see it as an opportunity to reset the clock on your incomplete New Year’s Resolutions list. And let’s admit it, we all had ‘get fit’ on there.

And now that we are here, rebooting the new lifestyle change, we have to ask ourselves:

To cheat day or not to cheat day? That is the question!

A cheat day is one day of the week that you get to choose to eat whatever you want or skip working out while on a strict fitness program. If you follow fitness influencers online, you are just as confused as I am on whether they are a good idea or not.

Others swear by the concept, saying to live a balanced life, you shouldn’t deprive yourself of foods or activities that make you happy; that by suppressing the urges, you inevitably create a build up that will one day explode into binge eating and reset all the work you did or outright give up on the journey. And then on the other side, their first mission is discipline. They believe that for the fact that you got overweight in the first place means you don’t have a good handle on your discipline and therefore should eliminate any temptation.

Honestly both schools of thought make sense. Discipline is a very important component to undertaking a fitness journey but in the same breath, not eating things you enjoy (EVER!) is depressing and can inevitable make your relationship with food a negative one regardless.

Luckily because this is earth, there are those that believe both principles can live in the same universe.

Take the youtube fitness stars (shouldn’t be hard to tell why they are so famous), Keith and Kevin from the TwinMuscle youtube page. Firstly, you will struggle to hear anything they are saying while they joke around with Kevin’s woman because.. you are too busy staring, but once you get over that, they have some great gems about how calorie counting is a great tool to keeping fit on cheat days.
