Ghana, Ghanaians and other Africans living within and outside the country really enjoyed the Year Of Return to the fullest.
Ever since Ghana announced the celebration in 2019, the country had a lot of diasporans returning home to connect with their ancestors. The celebration was also used to enable foreigners to learn more about the Ghanaian culture, slave trade, history and more.
A wide range of activities including workshop, road trips to historical sites including Cape Coast Castle, Elmina Castle, and festival-like Full Circle Festival, and several other concerts were lined up for the celebration, these kept the country very busy throughout 2019.
This brought international celebrities such as Idris Elba, Cardi B, T.I, Akon, Boris Kodjoe, Anthony Anderson, Jidenna, Ludacris, Tarrus Riley, Ebro Darden, and others to the country.
The President of the Republic Of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo revealed recently during a speech at the Jubilee House (Seat of the Presidency) that the Minister of tourism and other stakeholders are working around the clock to make the Year Of Return an annual celebration.
”The Tourism Minister and her team are sitting down to see if the Year of Return can become a permanent feature of our tourism landscape. The year of return turned out to be a much greater phenomenon than I anticipated. I didn’t realize that when I first raised the issue, it was going to turn out to be this huge.”
